The new Del Taco Turkey Taco

Del Taco reached out to me recently and told me about a new item that's just hit their menu.  They've introduced Turkey Tacos to their lineup, making the company the first Mexican fast food chain to offer ground turkey as a protein option. Del Taco’s Turkey Tacos feature lean, seasoned ground turkey that has 33 percent less fat than its seasoned beef yet offers the same craveable flavor. Each Turkey Taco has only 150 calories.

They offered me a chance to give the tacos a try, and I wholeheartedly accepted their offer.  I'm already a big fan of Del Taco, and now early in 2014.. I looked forward to the chance of trying these healthier options.  After all, I can always use another healthier dining option when it comes to my perpetual new years resolution of getting in better shape.  I stopped by Del Taco last week for lunch during one of my days off, and decided to give the hard shell turkey tacos a try.

The quality of ingredients at Del Taco are always fresh and tasty, and prepared in store on a daily basis.  And.. while the tacos looked and smelled delicious, I was dying to sink my teeth into them to see how the turkey tasted.

I've got to say that the consistency and taste of the turkey was top notch.  Apart from a softer texture, and less greasy consistency, I really couldn't tell that the ground meat was turkey.  It was full of flavor and neither bland or dry in any sense of the words.

Fast forward to the weekend.  I was out running errands, and the turkey tacos I had eaten earlier in the week were weighing heavy on my mind.  I decided to stop in and give the soft tacos a whirl, and was every bit as impressed with them, as I was with their hard shelled brethren.

I've got to say that I was very impressed with these turkey tacos all the way across the board.  I may very well have to pick up a couple bags of these next time "taco night" rolls around!  If you've got the inkling for tacos, want to explore a healthier option, and are near a Del taco restaurant, I highly recommend giving them a try.
