Retro action figure sightings at Toys R' Us

I took the kids to Toys R' Us today and had just as much fun as they did.  Check out some of the retro goodness I came across while browsing the action figure aisles..

I love action figures, and really dig these types of throwback toys.  Did you notice how many of these toys had packaging that played up the retro aspect?  It is pretty cool.. but as a toy collector and action figure aficionado, I'm hoping the toy manufacturers kind of cool their jets.  I can see this trend easily getting out of hand, until all kinds of crappy toys are being produced with the hopes that playing up the retro angle will make them big bucks.

On a side note:  I do realize a few of these toys are throwbacks from the 90's, but seeing as the 90's were twenty years ago..  I've recently come to the harsh realization that they are now too becoming retro.

  1. My brother is a big Godzilla fan, I'll have to show him this. He used to have the action figure when he was a kid, and a King Kong one that he left behind when we were eating at Bonanza but it was gone by the time we went back there. The classic monster movie ones are cool. I always enjoyed watching those films with my dad and brother back in the late 70's and early 80's.

    1. Hey LaraAnn!! I'm happy to still see Godzilla on the shelves after all of these years! As well as the resurgence in great classic Monsters. I can't begin to tell you how many hours were spent on Saturdays after cartoons, watching the classic sci-fi and monster flicks!!

  2. Do you remember when they tried to redesign Godzilla with that Matthew Broderick movie in the 1990s? You know, the film where the scientists used a pregnancy test to figure out Godzilla was laying eggs, and the news reporter mentioning that New York's Disney and Warner Brothers Stores had been looted?

    Great Retro finds, Darrin!

    1. I DO remember that! Didn't care for the retooled 'Zilla' too much, but my kid loved him!

  3. Oh my goodness, I almost fell out of bed when I saw Godzilla!!!

I got my first car in 1973. Nothing fancy, a previously owned 1969 Toyota Corolla but it was mine. Remember when cars had back dashes? Well, wanting to put my personality on my car, I went to Toys R Us, bought a huge Godzilla (at the time I thought it was huge since it stood a whole foot high) and then super glued it to the back dash so he was looking out at the people behind me. I can't tell you how many hours of laughs I got watching people in my rear view mirror when I was stopped at a red light. Back then, people didn't do weird stuff like that so Godzilla got quite a reaction, LOL.
