Hot Wheels/General Mills Monster Cereal cars
The General Mills Monster cereals were my favorites as a kid, so I was psyched the first time I saw these new designs. This assortment includes a Boo Berry 1929 Ford pickup, a Count Chocula 1970 Chevelle station wagon, and a Franken Berry 1977 Dodge van.
I actually found the Franken Berry and Count variations first, and finally tracked down the Boo Berry car about a week later. I lucked out and walked into a store one morning while they were unpacking several cases of Hot Wheels cars to line their shelves with for the holidays. From the looks of the way the cases were packed, there were only two Boo Berry cars per case. I've seen very few of these Monster cereal cars on shelves since, and have yet to see any more Boo Berry cars anywhere.. so I'm glad I found all three for my collection.
These aren't the only great retro Hot Wheels on the shelves this year, so it looks like I'll have to do a post soon, covering some more of the great retro designs Hot Wheels has recently released.

These are really cool! I LOVED the monster cereals when I was a kid. Count Chocula was my favorite!
ReplyDeleteMy boys have some Hot Wheels cars with the Apple Jacks, Raisin Bran and Corn Pops logos on them. I should probably rescue them from the old toy box. They might be worth something some day!
Oooh, I am SO jealous!
ReplyDeleteNo way! I wonder if my son would like these? Uber cool!
ReplyDeleteHeaded to the store now...
ReplyDeleteThis really isn't fair anymore. First, General Mills has stopped selling their Monster Cereals in Canada, then, to top it off, Mattel never, *ever* sends these special Hot Wheels cars north of the 49th parallel. We always get the same bland, vanilla crapiola over and over again. To get anything remotely interesting Hot Wheels-wise, I have to go on eBay and then I ask myself, why can't we have anything that cool around here?
ReplyDeleteTerri: Yup! They CAN be worth some bucks if they're the right models!
ReplyDeleteKitty: Heh Heh I KNEW I had to own them once I saw them!
Connie: I'm sure he would!
Brian: Good luck! Don't forget to check drug stores too!
Pluche: I used to have a website where I sold cereal, and had to stop sending Franken Berry to Canada, because the boxes would get to customs and never make it to the buyers. They'd simply disappear. Also.. That's crazy about the Hot Wheels! Do they not sell them in the stores over there at all?
I love the names... Frankenberry is the best... they don't sell those cereals where I live so forgive me for my belated enthusiasm.
ReplyDelete@ Darrin: About the cereal? General Mills is so not cool about this. And the hot Wheels? Well, we get the plain vanilla models but not a whole lot of variety. Special editions are nowhere to be seen and I won't even mention T-Hunt models. Matchbox are even worse, maybe 5 or 6 vehicles per store (you read right) and Johnny Lightning are non-existent. Luckily I found some of the latter at the flea market but for anything special it's eBay.
ReplyDeleteRyth: Heh Heh. No problem. Your enthusiasm is great!
ReplyDeletePluche: Don't feel too bad.. I've NEVER found a Treasure Hunt in stores yet! Matchbox are pretty abundant. I dig the ones this year that actually come with a matchbox like the old ones used to!
I couldn't find Boo Berry anywhere---now I know why! Glad you were able to get these! Can't wait to see more...
ReplyDeleteYeah.. I SHOULD have got a few. They're are very hard to find!
DeleteI have 8 out of the 9 in this series....im missing boo berry....i want one bad :)
ReplyDeleteYup.. seems like Boo is definitely the short packed car! I guess there's always Amazon or E-Bay.. but the prices might be a bit high.
